BACKGROUND

The 50 bedded ESI Hospital was proposed by Chandigarh Health Department, it was constructed by M/s. PSIEC, Chandigarh and was taken over by the corporation from the construction agency in the year 2002. The building was to be handed  over to the Health Department of Union Territory, Chandigarh but consequent to their refusal it was decided that and the ESI Corporation would itself run the hospital. Accordingly the hospital was inaugurated by Dr. Sahib Singh  the then Hon’ble Minister for Labour& Employment , Govt. of India on 12th  October,2002.

LOCATION

As one enters the city beautiful, heading towards the second roundabout , known as  “The Tribune” roundabout , about half a KM prior to it a road cuts off the left into Industrial area, Phase II. About half a KM farther up the road on the right hand side stands the ESI Corporation  Hospital Building by the side of petrol pump. This area is called ‘Industrial Area-II, Ram Darbar Chandigarh.’

The BUILDING SPACE CONSTRAINTS AND FUTURE PLANS

      Built up area of the building is one  and half storeys,

      The total  plot area of 50 bedded ESIC hospital Chandigarh  is 13272.60 sq mt. Out of this area  60 % of the area measuring 5182 sq mt. can be covered as per by laws of Chandigarh Administration.  Presently the built up area of  ground floor of the hospital is 3197.10 sq mt. The built up area of first floor occupying Male/Female ward/OT /Labour Room is 1219.21 sq mt.

      As per construction plan the hospital building can be raised upto three storey can be built.

      The Hqrs office has already decided to upgrade the existing 50 bedded hospital to 100 bedded. Accordingly, the maintenance agency M/s. UPRNN has already been requested to prepare the detailed drawing keeping in view the space requirement for different disciplines on left over area of  proposed 1st and 2nd floor of the building. The periodic meetings with the architect are being held and the preparation of  drawing is in its final stage.. As and when the drawing is prepared the same shall be sent to Hqrs. office immediately for approval.

    • OTHER MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS

      Besides ESI Hospital there are two ESI Dispensaries i.e. one each in sector:29 and Sector:22, in Chandigarh which are being managed by Health Department of Union Territory Chandigarh. All insured Persons (IPs) attending the hospital OPD are referred by the ESI Dispensaries Sector: 22 and 29, Chandigarh. Of these Sec:22 Dispensary is a one doctor dispensary.

       Patient can go to the emergency as per need directly without any referral from the dispensary.

      Referral is necessary in the benefit period to ensure that Medical attendance is given to the entitled persons
